Mark began as a pastor at First Church in July of 2012. A native of Delaware County, he has served churches in Eastern Pennsylvania (mostly in urban settings) and in the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as having worked as a resident chaplain at Lancaster General Hospital. He is a graduate of Boston University and the Duke University Divinity School. He reads a lot, drinks more tea than is probably good for him, and is very glad to be serving in Phoenixville.

Dr. Pamela Poe joins the staff in the fall of 2017 as Director of Music Ministries. She leads the chancel choir, and serves as pianist and organist for worship.

Pam has been playing organ and conducting choirs since 1970, and has served churches of many denominations. She earned her undergraduate degree as a dual major in Organ Performance and Music Education from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York as a student of Will Headlee. She then earned a Masters degree in Church Music (Choral Conducting and Organ Performance) from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey where she graduated with distinction. 

After a decade of teaching music K-12 in NY, NJ, and MD, Pam’s career took a turn towards communication and public health. She earned a Masters degree in Communication (Film & Video) from American University and served as a media producer for several federal public health-related agencies. While earning a doctoral degree in Communication and Health Communication from Temple University, Pam completed a fellowship and began her teaching, research and writing career. This has currently led to a position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Health Communication at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, where she is currently responsible for steering a new Graduate Certificate in Health Communication. Pam has also taught at Drexel, La Salle, and Thomas Jefferson, in addition to several other colleges and universities.Pam lives near Swarthmore, PA with husband Randy Poe, who is joining the FUMC Choir and plans to offer occasional classical piano selections. Both daughters and their families live in Philadelphia, and grandchildren Lily and Owen are delights! For fun, Pam likes to give writing and memoir workshops at retreat centers, in churches, and for the Livestrong program. She has been a Volunteer Patient Representative at Pennsylvania Hospital and has served meals to homeless families at Trinity in Swarthmore for the Interfaith Hospitality Network program. When time permits, she loves to garden and practice crocheting, quilting, embroidery and collage, often in the art studio at Pendle Hill Quaker Retreat Center in Wallingford.

Dave Stauffer

Dave Stauffer joined the staff of First Church in the summer of 2015 as Director of Christian Education. Dave grew up and currently resides in Boyertown. He graduated from Temple University in the spring of 2015 with his bachelor’s in Percussion Performance. He has a great passion for music and education, and currently teaches over 15 private students a week. He also teaches the drumlines at Pottstown and Boyertown High Schools, and performs regularly around the area with various groups, and in his duo “Dave and Richard.”

Before coming to First Church, Dave was a life member at St. Andrew UMC in New Berlinville. During his time there, he completed an internship, and volunteered regularly to work with the youth, kids, and adults through VBS, Sunday School, music, and outreach programs.

In his spare time, Dave enjoys drumming, playing video games, and watching/talking Philadelphia sports with friends.

Jane Hulse joined the staff of First Church in October 2006. She comes to First Church with a degree in Business Management from DeSales University and has worked in various office environments. She is responsible for supporting the pastor and the staff as well as church members in order to further the ministry and mission of the church.

Her normal office hours are:
     9:00 am-3:30 pm Monday through Thursday
     9:00 am-2:00 pm on Fridays

Summer Hours:
     9:00 am -3:00 pm Monday through Thursday
     9:00 am – Noon on Fridays

Director of Youth Music Ministries


Gwen Miller


Gwen has been leading generations of youth choirs and music ministries at First Church.  She volunteers her time to lead our Cherub Choir, Youth Choir, and direct our Youth Musical Programs.
